LaserVault Integrates well with the City of Ketchikan's AS/400
The City of Ketchikan, Alaska, runs the town’s utilities, including gas,
electric, telephone, and sewage. They needed a document management solution that
would be easy to use and integrate well with their AS/400. We talked with Lori
Nesje about why the City of Ketchikan chose to go with LaserVault.
Tight Integration with the AS/400
"Since LaserVault uses the AS/400 command language, getting
data to it is super easy. "
-Lori Nesje,
City of Ketchikan
“Our main criteria,” says Lori, “was that the system had to integrate
seamlessly with the AS/400. It was essential that the system be able to print
reports from the AS/400 directly into COLD storage and be able to continue
accessing through the AS/400.“
“That was the main reason why we bought LaserVault, because it interacts so
well with the AS/400. Since LaserVault uses the AS/400 command language, getting
data to it is super easy. You can do everything in a CL program, you don’t have
to remember to do things, you can set it up as a scheduled job. With LaserVault,
once you have everything set up, you can run it as a CL program, and it just
runs, out of site, out of mind. Every time we run our utility bills, for
instance, they automatically go out to LaserVault that day.”
Ease of Use
“Before that I had to use the microfilm, and there’s just no comparison. It
is so much faster than having to go load microfilm for each month, and search
it, and then pull it out. The ability to pull things up by different keys is
great; we also use it for all of our accounting reports, our payroll reports,
anything that we generate off of the AS/400 pretty much goes out to LaserVault.
It is easy to work, easy to install, and is way better than doing microfilm,
obviously.”
“With LaserVault, our customer service people can pull up a person’s name and
print up a whole year’s worth of bills, and that is so convenient, especially at
tax time. If we had to take LaserVault away from our end users, then I would end
up quitting, because they would be up in arms. It saves them so much time.”
Great Tech Support
“Every time we have had a problem, your people in tech support have walked us
through it, and they stay with us. Even though the version we had was no longer
supported, they went out of their way to help us, they found the old
documentation and made sure everything would keep working until we decided to
upgrade.”
